Gobi Partners China recognised on Forbes China and China Renaissance People of the Year lists

On December 30th, 2019, Forbes China published the “Top 100 Venture Capitalists” list. Michael Zhu, Managing Partner at Gobi Partners China, was recognised for the award for two consecutive years.

The “Forbes China Top Venture Capitalists List” has been in place for over a decade, and aims to recognise China’s most visionary investors who have built leading portfolios with exceptional returns. This year, Forbes China went through a consistent selection process based on the same principles to determine the “Top Venture Capitalists 2019”. The selection process focuses on prior investment exits and the progress of investments yet to be exited in the past five years (January 1, 2015 to October 31, 2019).

On December 18th 2019, China Renaissance published the “VC·PE Annual Influential Investor List 2019”. Wing Hu, Partner at Gobi Partners China, received the “Outstanding Young VC Investor of the Year 2019” award.

The Annual Influential Investor List is created by China Renaissance, using a systematic and data-driven approach. Data is the only standard used to recognise truly influential investors. Three core principles followed are standard disclosure, transparency of terms, and evidence-based list to ensure investors identified are truly influential.

Michael Zhu, Managing Partner of Gobi Partners China honorably named “Top Venture Capitalist of 2019” by Forbes China.

Mr. Zhu joined Gobi in 2003, and has more than 16 years of professional experience in the venture capital industry, focusing on domains including deep technology, IoT, Enterprise SAAS, cloud service, and innovative financial service. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Automation from Donghua University in Shanghai.

As the leading Partner, Mr. Zhu established the Gobi Ying Zhi RMB Fund, the Gobi Zhi Ying RMB Fund, and the Gobi Qiling RMB Fund, in 2012, 2015, and 2018 respectively, and raised RMB 1.25 billion in total. In 2016, Mr. Zhu took part in the fundraising and led the management of Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund worth HK$ 1 billion.

Mr. Zhu serves on the board of directors in multiple portfolio companies, he leads and contributes to a variety of projects including Airwallex, GoGoVan, WaveOptics, Teambition, Cloudwise, CheZhiBao, PICOOC, and StayCloud.

Wing Hu, Partner of Gobi Partners China honourably named “Outstanding Young VC Investor of the Year 2019” by China Renaissance.

Mr. Hu joined Gobi in 2011. He is heading Gobi’s Beijing Office and frequently travels between Shanghai and Beijing. Mr. Hu currently focuses on cloud computing/enterprise services, smart manufacturing, AI, car-related services, and logistics sectors.

Mr. Hu serves on the board of multiple portfolio companies. He has led and participated in the investments in Teambition, CloudWise, 36Kr, Dianwoda, Chezhibao, Cloudcare, Esign, ChuangKit, MegaRobo, Antwork, Bora Network, and Pachira.

Prior to joining Gobi, Mr. Hu had several years of experience with TMG (The Martec Group) as a project manager. He has extensive experience and knowledge in fine chemicals, new materials, and electric vehicles. He has also previously worked for several Global Fortune 500 companies, including Dow, Henkel, DuPont, Honeywell, and Corning.
